Friends

I'm thankful for my friends. New friends and old friends. I know some pretty great women, and I'm trying to be better at staying in touch with them!

Space Heater

I am thankful for our space heater. When I changed Will this morning his little feet were blue! The heater in the house was on, but I think the wind just blows through our old raised home. Not that I'd leave the heater on in the room with him while he's sleeping, but it has made his room a little cozier for nap time.

It's also nice for our bathroom (which has ceramic tiles- brrrr!).

Moms

I am thankful for all the mothers in my life that are willing to listen and give me advice. Is it OK to put Will in a jumper/ exersaucer? Do I really have to start rice cereal now? Wait... how do I even use rice cereal? Um... I guess I need to start thinking about making food. Is he almost 6 months already? Where does the time go?

Quite a bit of being a mother was common sense, but now I'm starting to have questions. I am so very grateful for those that have been here before me.

Veterans

I am thankful for those that served and are currently serving our country. I am so very blessed to live in the USA.

Pinterest

I have to give a shout-out of thanks for Pinterest. It is making life a lot easier since I can keep all the recipes I use often (and new ones, too) in one convenient location. I am finding good craft/ gift ideas. I can also find parenting advice. There's stuff to make you laugh, too, if that's what you're needing at the time.

Charlottesville

I wanted Michael to go to medical school at UVa. For some reason I always thought Virginia would be a good place to live. Plus Charlottesville's website made it look like such a charming city. The first few months were really difficult for me. Trying to find a job. Not knowing anyone. Eventually I stopped feeling sorry for myself and started meeting up with the other med school wives. A few months later I started knitting at The Needle Lady. I had to learn how to cook food other than Hamburger Helper and French Bread Pizza.

Being away made me figure out who I was. Most importantly it gave Michael and I time to ourselves. Time to have our own adventures. We're going back for a few days in April, and I can't wait!

Job

I am thankful for my job. I was pretty stressed about finding work in New Orleans when we moved. Turns out my dad was looking for someone to handle his construction company's finances. I was a little uncertain of how working for him would turn out, but we get along great. Not to mention I can keep Will with me all the time since our office is behind PaPa and Grannie's house. It is such a blessing and I am grateful every day for the financial security that working brings us.

Doomsday

Today I'm thankful for the impending end of the world on December 21. All joking aside, a week ago someone on Facebook mentioned it, and it got me thinking. What if the world was ending? What would I do differently?

So I made a change. I relaxed and started making every moment count. This has turned into really impressive Christmas craft output during nap times. I had been putting off attending a Mom and Baby yoga class. Trying new things is out of my comfort zone. So today we went, and we both enjoyed it! I'm also going to attend a La Leche League meeting in a couple weeks.

I'm not saying you should do something crazy like go skydiving (you know who you are) or quit your job. And obviously not every day can be all rainbows and sunshine. It also sounds like it could be exhausting. Anytime I'd ever thought about "what if today is the last day" I'd feel a little overwhelmed. I'm just going to do what makes me happy. Get involved in what's going on around me. Nourish the relationships I have with the people I love.

Democracy

This morning as I was getting my last minute what's on the ballot education on, I figured that I would have to be thankful for the obvious today. Even though I was feeling kind of whatever about it. I know being able to vote is not something that all people have the option to do, but it's not something that I ever endured any kind of hardship for. I was mostly excited about being able to walk over to the polling location.

However, when I was standing in line with Will I could feel the excitement of the people around me. A mother and father walked up with their son who was voting for the first time. Community coming together to make their voices heard. Pretty awesome indeed. I'm thankful that I am a citizen of the USA.

Theo

Today I am thankful for Theo, who just hit his head on every bar of the metal bed frame upon emerging from under the bed when he heard Michael walk towards the door. While he might make me crazy at times he is one of a kind furry companion. Not to mention he's often got my side of the bed nice and toasty when I climb into bed.

In Laws

Today I am thankful for awesome in-laws. Jokes about awful in-laws will never apply to me. I am thankful that I was lovingly welcomed into their family. I am thankful that they inspired me to be crafty.

Baby

I am thankful every day for the opportunity to be Will's mother. He is such an easygoing healthy happy baby. He reminds me that every day is precious and that I have so much to be grateful for.

Husband

Two today, since it's the second. You're welcome.

I am thankful for my husband who is working hard for our family at his job and at home. Who plays with our dog, and who makes our baby laugh. Who makes me laugh, too.

Family

I don't know if it was a Facebook trend last year to post what you are thankful for every day in November, but I am seeing friends do it this year. I have decided to jump on the bandwagon by posting something I am thankful for on the blog every day this month. 

This picture is missing a few people, but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I am so very thankful for my family. For obvious reasons.
